Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is on a three nation’s tour of USA, The Netherlands and Portugal. He will begin his tour from Portugal where he will be on Saturday and from there he will fly to the USA. His visit to USA is very significant because of the changing global scenario and power equations around the world. It is also very important because the two notable leaders this time around Mr. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, and Mr. Donald Trump, the President of USA, are meeting for the first time after change of guard in the US.
This meeting between the two world leaders is happening after Mr. Trump invited Mr. Modi to visit the US. This visit to US is expected to strengthen the ties between the two countries in the field of countering terrorism, promoting economic growth and prosperity and expanding security in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Three Nation tour begins with Mr. Modi’s visit to Portugal. In his Facebook page Mr. Modi said, “I will pay working visit to Portugal on 24 June, 2017”. He further said that the historical relations between the two countries have picked up after visit by Prime Minister of Portugal Mr. Antonio Costa in 2017. Both The Prime Ministers are set to review progress of various joint initiatives. Mr.Modi in his Facebook post added that both countries will explore possibilities for cooperation in the field of science and technology, space, contact between people of the two countries and international issues that are of mutual interest.
Mr. Modi will end his three day visit in The Netherlands. This year marks the completion of 70 years of diplomatic relations between both the countries. During his visit Mr. Modi will have an official meeting with the Dutch Prime Minister Mr. Mark Rutte. He will also call on King Willen Alexander and Queen Maxima. The Dutch have an expertise in areas such as water management, food processing, renewable energy, ports and shipping which is of significance to our national needs. Mr. Modi will also meet the CEOs of major Dutch Companies and will encourage them to partner us in our growth process. He is also looking forward to meet the Indian Diaspora in the Netherlands.
