Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a three nation tour of Portugal, USA and the Netherlands. His first destination was Portugal. He is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Portugal for a bilateral visit. He held talks with his Portugal counterpart Mr. Antonio Costa. During his talks with Portugal Prime Minister, both the countries signed agreements in the field of scientific cooperation, youth exchanges and start-ups.
During this visit, an agreement to set up a unique web portal for start-ups known as India-Portugal International Start-Ups Hub (IPISH) to be established in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal has been finalized. The IPISH is a joint initiative between the Ministry of Commerce and Industries and Startup Portugal to forge an entrepreneurial partnership.
Portugal today has become a hub for Startups and business creation in Europe and this partnership aims to mutually benefit both the countries.
Both the leaders also discussed various other international issues including the evil consequences of terrorism and how to eliminate it.
Prime Minister Costa who is of Indian origin arranged a surprise Gujarati Meal for Prime Minister Modi. The menu included some Gujrati delicacies such as rajma aur makai, saag kofta, paranthas, papad. Deserts included gulab jamun.
Prime Minister Modi presented Overseas Citizen of India card to Antonio Costa. “Prime Minister represents the best of the Indian diaspora across the world,” Modi said during a joint address to the media. While on earlier visit to India, Antonio was awarded with Pravasi Bhartiya Samman.
