Irrfan Khan, The Legend Is Gone

His name does not need any introduction today. The entire country is mourning at his untimely demise. Today morning was the most unfortunate one as we all woke up to the news of Irrfan Khan’s death. He breathed his last at Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital where he was admitted for a colon infection. Irrfan had been battling a very rare cancer neuroendocrine tumor since 2018. His battle for life came to an end today at the age of 53.

Irrfan's last rites were performed at the Versova kabristan in Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon. His sons Babil and Ayan performed his last rites, with five members from his family in attendance. Due to the nationwide lockdown imposed to stop the spread of the pandemic, no one from Bollywood was allowed to reach the Kabristan. However, filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, who has worked with Irrfan on multiple projects like Haider and 7 Khoon Maaf, managed to attend the last rites at the Kabristan.

Even though the industry friends of Irrfan Khan could not meet him for the last time, they paid their tributes to the legend with heartfelt notes on social media.

We understand the grief of all the friends, family especially the fans who love him from the core of their heart.  But we know that Irrfan would always be there in our hearts. A true artist never really dies. We would meet him in his movies, in his iconic dialogues. Every time we would talk about the finest artists, his name would top the list. New actors would listen to his stories and get inspired. And the legend, the legacy would LIVE.
